Shark Bay, Cape Peron & Monkey Mia

September 29, 2016Leave a commenton the road

Monkey Mia is famous for it’s dolphins. The whole place was actually a bit disappointing for a couple of reasons. It’s not a town but rather a resort and a very commercial set up. After the ruggedness of the stations and the National Parks, where you are in awe of nature doing it’s thing around you, Monkey Mia you paid, lined up and were herded around, with a whole list of things you weren’t allowed to do. Bizarrely the day we were there the dolphins didn’t arrive on cue, which apparently never happens. I can’t say we were all that bothered as although it was a really pretty spot, we have seen more than our fair share of dolphins in our travels and I think we were all relieved to leave the crowds behind.

We did head up to Cape Peron and explored some of the beaches around Monkey Mia, which were just as beautiful, without the commercial aspect. We were feeling pretty smug that the dolphins would just turn up to where we were but it wasn’t to be and you can’t just switch on nature after all!
