Coral Bay, WA

September 22, 2016Leave a commenton the road

The wind gods were kind to us in Coral Bay.

First up Sean and Dan booked a (very successful) fishing charter while I took the kids out on a swim trip with the Manta Rays. What an incredible day and a definite highlight of our trip. We swam with about 6 different manta rays, who really are the graceful gentle giants of the sea. We were also lucky enough to swim with turtles, reef sharks, millions of reef fish and see lots of dolphins, a lone tiger shark and some stunning coral. It truly felt as though we were swimming on the set of Nemo and makes you realise how the animators totally nailed it!

Just when we were starting to relax, our snake trauma reared its ugly head. We went for a bit of a drive around the dunes near Coral Bay for a picnic and a snorkel. We found a gorgeous spot, protected from the breeze, and no sooner had we jumped out of the car to unload when we were faced with a cranky brown snake about 2m away from us. World’s fastest picnic as we high tailed it back to the camp ground!

WA school holidays coincided with our stay at the caravan park in Coral Bay, which meant an influx of kids and Lucie managed to befriend quite a few girls around her own age, which was great as she lives in a very boy heavy world. Trying to extract her from these girls to go out and do something was another matter. At one point she melted down and told us, “I hate living in this van! Why can’t we just be normal like everyone else and live in a cabin!” Poor little hobo….

Coincidently while we were on Coral bay our house in Mona Vale finally settled, so we are all now officially hobos. Most likely the happiest hobos on the planet!

Coral Bay bought the end of 2 months of travel with the Lindon’s. We all really enjoyed their company and are going to miss Grace, Dan, Jack, Ben and Paddo. We’ve made friends for life and we look forward to camping in their driveway in January!
