Kooljaman at Cape Leveque

WOW, this is an absolute highlight!

We were expecting this to be special and it certainly hasn’t disappointed us. We’ve been camped in a beach shelter for 5 days with the Mahers and the Lindons. We’ve extended for a couple of days in the campground as I don’t think we can bring ourselves to leave. Watching whales breech as we sit looking out over beautifully clear turquoise water having our morning brew has been nothing short of amazing.

Campfires at night and camping on the beach during the day is our idea of paradise. Thanks to Dan’s boat the boys have been out fishing a few times and have come back with the most amazing fish which we’ve BBQ’d up for dinner. It’s certainly not something I want to leave any time soon! Beautiful white sandy beaches, safe swimming (so they say!), snorkeling, lots of shells to collect and sunsets to die for.

We spent the day with an aboriginal guide who took us right up the peninsula and into Hunters Creek, which is aboriginal only land. He showed the kids how to dig for ghost crabs and spotted turtles swimming close by, which we would have walked straight past.

He also pulled a huge mud crab out of the creek for the kids to hold. The water was so clear we could see it walking along. When we released it the kids were able to snorkel out and follow it creeping away.
