Breathtaking! After driving a couple of hours through the smoke fog, I’m sure missing some beautiful scenery but it wasn’t to be, we arrived in Stanley as the smoke was lifting. The town of Stanley is like stepping back in time and the Stanley Nut (true!) really is stunning. We are free camping across the bay at Blackwater River, which looks back at the Nut.
After having been in the town I think we are all wishing a bit that we were in the caravan park which was like stepping back in time, although it was blowing a gale, so perhaps better off & a bit more protected where we are.
Dinner at the Pub in Stanley totally blew the budget, again!
We then had another restless night as the wind picked up and we could smell smoke from the fires again which is very disconcerting when you are camping in the bush. We’ve been keeping up to date via the fire alert and know we are about 90 minutes from the fires right now so we are pretty safe. It’s just not a great thing to wake up to in the dark with questionable internet access for fire updates.
Beautiful images Pinwells, I’m caught up, but seems you are a wee bit behind. Oh just MY preference but for readability can newest posts come first? Otherwise it may prove challenging to follow you when we are reading post #200, ;).
And SP, I have to say that SM is in total agreement with KP…the ongoing coffee saga must be sorted. We did stove top espresso gizmo, plus Aldi milk frother. As we try to avoid dairy, we did have issues getting our Bonsoy in some places so we would buy 6-8 litres at a time whenever we found it. Coffee, wine, and chocolate…priorities folks!
Sounds like you are having an amazing adventure. Keep up the pics and posts, Sean M & the (former) Wheellife Adventurers.
What an epic and amazing journey. Totally jealous. I expect piccies of anything crazily random like the giant…. or the weirdest shop or the weirdest name place or roadside stall (u can c what we look out for on our hols!!!)
Love the blog. Keep away from fires now tho. Take care xxx
thanks for your comments.
FYI – If your name isn’t within your blog we don’t know who you are.
Am loving reading your blog and so glad you escaped the fires unscathed. Am guessing a few wines were consumed after all the drama died down! What a fantastic adventure forcthecwjole family. Can’t wait to read the next instalment. Xx
